Listen to the new ‘Teachers of Europe’ podcast to hear teachers across Europe talk about their daily challenges and their thoughts on how schools and education systems are developing. The podcast was created to allow practicing teachers to address common classroom challenges by listening to and following in the footsteps of inspiring teachers from across the teaching community in Europe.
In the first episode of the podcast (December 2022), Rute Baptista, Professional Development Manager at the European School Education Platform and her guest, secondary school teacher Carol Barriuso from Spain, talk about the topic of refugee education beyond the classroom, highlighting the importance of family involvement and teachers’ well-being.
In the second episode (January 2023), Benjamin Hertz, Pedagogical Manager at the European School Education Platform leads a discussion with two guests, Lidija Kralj, an AI in education expert and former teacher from Croatia, and Ricardo Carvalho, secondary school teacher from Portugal. They delve into the topic of artificial intelligence in schools, and the opportunities and challenges that new AI tools present to teachers’ work.
In the third episode (October 2023), Alexandra Almpanidou, Pedagogical Coordinator at the European School Education Platform engages in a discussion with two distinguished guests; Dr. Benjamin Dreer, the Scientific Director of Erfurt School of Education, and Miguela Fernandes, computer science teacher from Portugal. Together they explore the crucial topic of teacher well-being with a particular emphasis on the challenges faced by teachers, the impact on their well-being, and the steps being taken to support and nurture their mental and emotional health.
In the fourth episode (January 2024), Rute Baptista, Professional Development Manager at the European School Education Platform, and her guests Holly Richardson, Salli Pylvänäinen and Tiina Soini-Ikonen discuss the most pressing challenges affecting students’ well-being today as well as the measures that can be employed to create a more nurturing and supportive educational environment.

Explore – empower – shape future: integrating sustainability competences into vocational education and training
Description
The course is drawn mainly from the experiences of the ERASMUS+ Partnership “G2VET” and the project resources “Lifehacks”, “Blog” and “Assessing Sustainability Competence in VET” as primary content sources. Over four modules, you’ll become familiar with the foundations of sustainability, exploring the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the EU Green COMP framework. You’ll gain an understanding of sustainability competences as outlined by EU Green Comp, understanding the creative presentation with bees, blossoms, pollen, and honeycombs to make the competence areas accessible and memorable. The course also goes beyond theory focussing on practical methods for training and evaluating sustainable competences, ensuring your students not only learn about sustainability but can demonstrate their competences. The final module brings it all together, focussing on implementation in your teaching environment, by showing materials and good practices from the G2VET Project.
Learning objectives
- Explain the concept of sustainability by discussing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the EU GreenComp.
- Identify and describe the key components of sustainability competences according to the EU GreenComp.
- Explore ideas and develop a plan to apply methods for assessing sustainability competences in VET.
- Discover materials provided by the G2VET project and propose practical strategies for integrating sustainability competences into VET curricula through participation in a final peer assessment activity.
Methodology & assessment
The course is offered as an asynchronous course with flexibility in regard to when and where participants follow the course content and join the course activities. However, there is a final deadline in place for the submission of a course product. Participants are required to actively contribute to the course activities by sharing their work and submitting a course product. This product is submitted and assessed by peers or the course instructor in the final module of the course.
Certification details
Upon successful completion of the course, a digital course certificate is awarded. The certificate shows the name of the learner and key course details such as the estimated learning hours, the learning objectives, and a link to the course homepage.

Italiano e non solo! Seminario Nazionale Intrecci. Lingue e letterature italiane di minoranza – Roma, 14.11.2024 – EPALE

Epale Italia organizza a Roma il 14 novembre presso il Seminario Nazionale EPALE intitolato Intrecci. Lingue e letterature italiane di minoranza.
In Italia ci sono 12 lingue ufficialmente riconosciute, oltre all’italiano. Sono parlate da oltre tre milioni di abitanti, da nord a sud, in un migliaio di comuni e almeno in 14 regioni diverse. Un patrimonio culturale prezioso, e talvolta fragile, che testimonia la ricca tradizione culturale del nostro paese e della sua storia, ponte tra Europa continentale e Mediterraneo.
In Italia, la questione delle lingue di minoranza è regolata dalla legge 482 del 1999, che riconosce e tutela una serie di lingue storiche parlate in determinate aree del Paese. Queste lingue, molte delle quali con radici antiche, appartengono a comunità storicamente insediate e sono tutelate come parte del patrimonio culturale italiano.
Vengono, inoltre, promosse attraverso programmi scolastici, culturali e mediatici. La tutela si estende anche a insegnamento, toponomastica e utilizzo nelle amministrazioni locali dove sono parlate.
Sono sostanzialmente tre le tipologie di lingue minoritarie che abbiamo: le lingue provenienti da un altro paese e stanziatesi da secoli nel nostro, le lingue che rappresentano in qualche modo un’appendice di un territorio estero in Italia e, infine, varietà linguistiche parlate storicamente sul territorio italiano e sorelle dell’italiano, ma evolutesi secondo proprie regole, così da risultare profondamente diverse.
Perché è importante dedicare attenzione alle lingue minoritarie in Italia ed in Europa?
Per molte ragioni che riguardano aspetti culturali, sociali e giuridici e, in ultimo, di coesione sociale. In linea con le priorità della Commissione e del Programma Erasmus+ affrontare questo tema significa promuovere il multilinguismo e l’apertura mentale, valorizzare la diversità culturale e l’identità locale, affrontare il tema dei diritti delle minoranze, contribuire alla preservazione di un patrimonio storico culturale inestimabile, favorire una maggiore consapevolezza e rispetto delle differenze culturali e, in ultimo, favorire la valorizzazione dei territori e lo sviluppo di turismo e contatti. In sintesi, parlare delle lingue minoritarie in Italia significa riconoscere e valorizzare la diversità culturale del Paese, promuovere i diritti delle minoranze e preservare un patrimonio linguistico e culturale che rischia di scomparire senza un’adeguata tutela e promozione.
Il seminario ho lo scopo di offrire una panoramica della variegata e spesso sconosciuta ricchezza linguistica italiana con attenzione anche alle cosiddette “nuove minoranze linguistiche”. In Italia, infatti, il fenomeno delle migrazioni ha portato all’introduzione di nuove lingue minoritarie, parlate dalle comunità di immigrati che si sono stabilite nel paese negli ultimi decenni. Queste lingue sono spesso utilizzate all’interno delle famiglie e delle comunità di origine, mantenendo legami culturali e linguistici con i paesi d’origine.
La prima parte del seminario traccerà il quadro storico culturale e giuridico delle lingue di minoranza con attenzione anche alla produzione letteraria, mentre nel pomeriggio saranno presentate esperienza concrete nazionali e europee a testimonianza della vivacità delle iniziative locali e dell’interesse delle politiche europee che, da sempre, mettono al centro multilinguismo e plurilinguismo.
Il seminario si rivolge a docenti, formatori, educatori, studenti universitari, appassionati e chiunque abbia un interesse specifico nelle lingue. Nel corso del Seminario il pubblico sarà coinvolto in attività pratiche.
