The Euro-Mediterranean Intercultural Trends Course Team

The online course “Euro-Mediterranean Intercultural Trends” is based on the Anna Lindh Report on Intercultural Trends and Social Change in the Euro-Mediterranean region, including a unique public opinion survey among a representative sample of the Euro-Mediterranean population about mutual perceptions, values and openness to diversity.

The course is composed of four modules:

Module 1 Representation of the Mediterranean and Mutual Interest. Through this module, you will learn about common values and attitudes, interests and expectations of the people living in the EuroMed region and their perception towards other countries/people.

Module 2 Values and Mutual Perception. Through this module, you will learn what are the most important values for people living around the Mediterranean and how the role of women is perceived and it is expected to change.

Module 3 Interaction across Cultures. Through this module, you will learn about how people from the two shores of the Mediterranean interact and how they construct the representation of the “other” as well as the role of media in this process.

Module 4 Living in Diversity. Through this module, you will learn about the impact of religion on people’s point of view and what could be efficient actions to contrast radicalisation and for better living in multi-cultural cities and societies.

By taking the course, you will:

  • increase your understanding of mutual perception between people from different European and Southern and Eastern Mediterranean countries (SEM), about their identities, values, fears, women’s role in society, the impact of religion on their views and their inclination to mobility.
  • learn what actions people expect in order to reduce radicalization and increase multiculturality, taking into consideration different opinions.
  • learn what is the impact of different media on people’s opinion and which are the most reliable and trustworthy media in different countries.

The course is video-based and highly interactive, meaning that you will have the possibility to discuss the content and the main course messages with peers from other cultures.

Top 200 Tools for Learning 2019

Since 2007 Jane Hart (from the Centre for Learning & Performance Technologies) has been compiling an annual Top Tools for Learning List from the results of an open survey. These Top Tools lists now constitute an important and interesting longitudinal study not just into the popularity of tools for learning but into learning behaviour itself.

Learning professionals (and others in related areas) are invited to nominate their Top 10 (digital) tools for learning and their contributions are then used to generate the annual list. From 2007-2015 this was a Top 100 Tools list, but to mark the 10th anniversary of the project in 2016, the list was extended to 200 tools.

The 2019 Top 200 Tools for 2019 Learning list, generated from 2,524 votes from 46 countries in the 13th annual learning tools survey, was published on 18 September 2019.

At first glance you might think there is very little difference in the list from previous years but whilst there is little movement at the top of the list, the bottom half is quite volatile with, once again, some significant movements in the tools as a number of popular tools have dropped back in the chart, probably as they become more commonplace. There are also 29 new entrants and 13 returning tools on this year’s list. One additional point about the list this year is that no devices have been included on it, e.g iPads, iPhones, etc

Once again, this year, only 22% of voters came from colleges and universities, hence the Top 200 list is therefore skewed towards workplace learning. So in order to identify where and how the tools are being used, it is therefore worth checking out the relevant 3 sub-lists and the specific analysis of the list provided on these pages.

  1. Top 100 Tools for Personal & Professional Learning (PPL100) – the digital tools used by individuals for their own self-improvement, learning and development
  2. Top 100 Tools for Workplace Learning (WPL100) – the digital tools used to design, deliver, enable and/or support learning in the workplace.
  3. Top 100 Tools for Higher Education (EDU100) – the digital tools used by educators and students in colleges and universities. Note: since only 6% of respondents came from schools, the EDU100 list this year focuses on tools for Higher Education.)

Voting for the Top Tools for Learning 2020 (the 14th Annual Digital Learning Tools survey) will open in Spring 2020.
